The 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the Institute of Meteorology at the University of Chicago

Friday, 22 September 2000

The year 2000 marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Institute of Meteorology at the University of Chicago. On September 22, 2000 the Department of the Geophysical Sciences of the Physical Sciences Division commemorated this event by hosting a one-day symposium that celebrated the rich history of the study of meteorology and other atmospheric sciences here at the University. Speakers included Drs. Roscoe Braham, William Gray, G. V. Rao, Richard Lindzen, Joe Pedlosky, and Roger Wakimoto. Lunch was served in the Goldsmith Room followed by the showing of two films from Dave Fultz's hydrodynamics lab. When the weather finally cleared we took a campus tour. The symposium culminated with a dinner at the Quadrangle Club where several attendees gave remembrances of their time at Chicago.
